The first drug to treat low sexual desire is the pill that could revolutionize a woman’s sex life, a new study shows.
A study of women with low sexual desire, who have gone through menopause, found that Viagra, which is the main erectile dysfunction treatment, also could be a better option.
But the drug, which comes with a 5.3 percent chance of causing low sexual desire, is much less effective than the pill.
A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2015 found that a quarter of women with low sexual desire experienced side effects. About 10 percent of the women who took Viagra also had a low libido.
Viagra is known as a PDE5 inhibitor, but the drug works by increasing blood flow to the genitals.
“We can say there’s a real possibility that Viagra will bring about a more satisfying sexual experience for women who have low sexual desire,” said Dr. Susan B. at Stanford University in California.
Viagra, which is only available in the U. S., is the pill that has the most success. It is the most-taken-no, non-prescription drug to treat low sexual desire since Viagra was approved by the FDA in 1998.
The drug is currently on the U. S. market, with the generic versions in the pipeline.
Viagra is still in early stages of approval and the drug will likely carry a list of approved applications. It is not yet certain whether it will be approved as a treatment for, but it is still on the market.
The drug works by increasing blood flow to the genitals, but the effects are more pronounced in menopausal women, the study showed.
